No more 24 hours free, only 60 minutes for group calling in the Google Meet app
Happy days, no more group calls on Google Meet for free 24 hours a day! Yes, the American tech giant recently made such a heartbreaking announcement.
Last year, in the wake of the Kovid-19 epidemic, Google introduced a number of new features at Google Meet to make it easier for users around the world to work online from home, one of which is the removal of group calls.
But from now on, group calls can no longer be made at any time through the Google Meet app. The maximum time limit is 60 minutes.
60 minutes for group calls in the Google Meet app
In April last year, Google made its video conferencing platform, Google Meet, available to all users for free.
The company decided to increase its popularity in pandemic situations as well as to compete with rivals like Zoom.
At the time, Google said it would not enforce the 60-minute deadline for calls until September 30, 2020.
Later, the company extended the 24-hour group call facility to March 31, 2021. This period was later extended again till June 30, 2021.
Now, however, Google has taken advantage of this opportunity instead of extending it further. The company said on its support page that free Google Meet users will be able to host only one-on-one calls up to 24 hours on their personal computers.
However, this does not apply to group calls. Calls with three or more participants can last up to a maximum of 60 minutes, the agency said.
Please note that users with a personal Google Account can have up to 100 participants in a video call.
Regarding the new group call rule at Google Meet, Google wrote on its support page, “Everyone will receive a notification within 55 minutes of the group call that the call is about to expire.
To extend the call, the host may upgrade their Google Account. Otherwise, the call will end in 60 minutes. ”
Let me inform you that the upgrade mentioned by the company is p 9.99 per month for Workspace Individual Tier, which has been launched in five countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Japan.
After upgrading to this plan, users will be able to host group calls lasting up to 24 hours without any restrictions.
However, in this context, the new rules do not apply to all customers. If you are a Google Workspace customer, meaning you have an enterprise account, this group call time limit will remain unchanged for you.
Workspace users can host one-on-one and group calls with up to three or more participants for up to 24 hours without any changes, the company said.
